Authorities in Peru reported Sunday that at least two people have been killed and more than 30 injured in clashes between demonstrators and National Police officers in protests against the government of Dina Boluarte.

Peru’s Prime Minister, Pedro Angulo, has assured in declarations to RPP the death of two people in the framework of the protests.

The National Police confirmed the first death, which, according to the Ombudsman’s Office, is a 15 year old minor. Family members have indicated, according to RPP radio station, that he died from the impact of a bullet.

Subsequently, the Andahuaylas Hospital indicated that an 18-year-old man died after being admitted to the health center seriously injured by the blow caused by a blunt object.

For his part, the regional governor of Apurímac, Baltazar Lantarón Núñez, said that more than 30 people were injured.

The regional government has declared a red alert in hospitals in order to «safeguard the lives» of citizens, while asking residents to avoid exposing themselves to risks and to protect their physical integrity.

In addition, a 14 year-old minor was reportedly hit by a pellet during the protests. A relative of the victims has requested that the teenager be taken to the capital, Lima, as an emergency measure.

As a consequence of the first death, a group of demonstrators have set fire to the police station of Huancabamba, in Andahuaylas, according to the newspaper ‘La República’.

Likewise, demonstrations and disturbances have been reported on Abancay Avenue, in Lima, where the Peruvian Parliament is located.
