The Congress of the Republic of Peru has summoned the Prime Minister, Pedro Angulo, and those in charge of Defense and Interior, Alberto Otárola and César Cervantes, respectively, to testify in relation to the death of two demonstrators in Andahuyalas in protests against the ascension of Dina Boluarte to the Andean Presidency.

As highlighted by the Peruvian Parliament in a statement, Angulo, Otárola and Cervantes must testify to «report on the riots and acts of violence» that have occurred in recent days in various parts of the country, but especially in Andahuyalas, in the region of Apurímac.

The session is scheduled for this Monday at 14.00 hours (local time), and both the head of Government and the two ministers will be able to participate both in person and telematically.

So far, two demonstrators have been confirmed dead in clashes with the National Police in the framework of protests against the arrival of Boluarte to the Presidency of Peru after the dismissal and arrest of former President Pedro Castillo after trying to force the dissolution of Congress.

The disturbances have so far resulted in the arrest of more than thirty people in Apurímac, according to the regional governor, Baltazar Lantarón Núñez, as reported by the Peruvian radio station RPP.

Peruvian authorities reported on Sunday the death of at least two people, one of them a minor, in the framework of the aforementioned protests and in which they demanded an early election, which Boluarte has already agreed to decree.

This wave of protests took place after former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo was removed from office and arrested by the Prosecutor’s Office in response to his attempt to dissolve the Parliament and impose a government of exception.
