Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Monday that a new oil field has been discovered in a mountain in Sirnak (northeast) and emphasized that his intention is to increase oil production to 100,000 barrels per day.

«It is one of the ten largest onshore discoveries in 2022 in the world,» Erdogan has assured, adding that its potential production is equivalent to $12 billion (11.3 billion euros) at market price, Anatolia news agency has reported.

On the other hand, Erdogan has praised the work of Turkish Petroleum, which has accelerated its exploration and production activities. «We added 71 million barrels to our current reserve with 34 new discoveries in 2021 alone,» he has said.

Thus, he has explained that Turkish Petroleum’s daily production, which was about 40,000 barrels five years ago, has increased to 65,000 barrels today. Added to the private sector, the figure reaches 80,000 barrels per day, according to the agency.
