The UK authorities reported Wednesday that they have decided to allocate 650 million pounds (about 750 million euros) to host families for thousands of Ukrainians who have arrived in the country after fleeing the war.

The British government has thus indicated that this is a «thank you» aid package for thousands of families who «have opened their homes to Ukrainians who have fled (Vladimir) Putin’s illegal war,» it said in a statement.

Thus, he has urged the population to unite and open their doors in an attempt to encourage long-term reception. «In recognition of their continued support in the midst of rising living costs, all those who have contributed will receive a thank you payment of around 500 pounds (582 euros) a month for hosting Ukrainian nationals for at least a year,» the text states.

«These payments will be spread over a period of between twelve months and two years so that those who are unable to move to live independently remain with host families as far as possible,» it said.

In this sense, the Government has explained that in the event that the hosts can no longer host the refugees, they will remain at the disposal of the City Councils, which will be responsible for providing them with accommodation.

Housing Minister Michael Gove has said he is «immensely proud of Britain’s open door program in response to Putin’s war». «We have to stand firm with Ukraine but also thank the thousands of families across the country who have opened their homes and hearts to Ukrainians,» he said.

«In recognition of their continued support, I am happy to confirm that they will receive their thank you checks,» he said.
