Several Peruvian parliamentarians have asked to declare Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ‘persona non grata’ in response to his support for former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, who was removed from office and arrested after a maneuver that the new government has called a «coup d’état».
The main promoter of this petition is the congresswoman for Renovación Popular Gladys Echaíz, who has also demanded López Obrador not to get involved in Peru’s internal affairs, as reported by the Mexican newspaper ‘El Universal’.
Echaíz has asserted that only Peruvians are in a position to resolve the sovereign affairs of the Andean nation, and that «no one else should interfere». Likewise, he emphasized that it has been «Castillo’s own relatives» who «have given him away».
In this sense, the parliamentarian has reproached López Obrador’s statements that the Peruvian Congress has had «discriminatory expressions» against former President Castillo.
On the other hand, Congressman Ernesto Bustamante, member of Fuerza Popular and former president of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Congress, has called upon the current president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, to «break diplomatic relations» with Mexico.
«What are you waiting for (…) to break diplomatic relations with the Government of Mexico and send that senile imbecile AMLO (initials of the Mexican president) to roll,» said Bustamante in his official Twitter profile.
