The Government of Peru has decreed this Thursday a curfew in 15 provinces of the country for at least five days, all this one day after the entry into force of the state of emergency announced to alleviate the protests that are succumbing throughout the country.

«Declare for the term of five calendar days, the mandatory social immobilization of all people in their homes, within the framework of the State of Emergency at national level declared by Supreme Decree,» wields the document, signed by the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte.

Specifically, the measure affects eight departments, including Arequipa, La Libertad, Ica, Apurímac, Cusco, Puno, Huancavelica and Ayacucho.

The curfew schedule varies according to the province, although in all cases it ends at 4:00 am. In some provinces, such as Andahuaylas or Chincheros, both in Apurimac, the measure starts at 6:00 pm. In the provinces of other departments, such as Arequipa or Cusco, the curfew starts at 8:00 pm.

Peru’s Prime Minister, Pedro Angulo, clarified in an interview on Wednesday with RPP radio station that the curfew «will only be situational and will be applied in specific cases».

«The curfew is going to be situational, it is circumscribed there where it is necessary. For example, if there is an airport that is taken over, a curfew will definitely be declared there and in order to recover it and put it at the service of the citizens, that will mean that the Army will enter,» said Angulo.
