At least six migrants have been killed and five others injured on Friday in Turkey after the minibus they were traveling in plunged into an irrigation canal in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa.
Local authorities have indicated that a total of 25 other people have been rescued after emergency services have moved to the scene of the accident, as reported by the Turkish television channel TRT Haber.
In addition, they have noted that one person has been detained for alleged human trafficking. «The organizer has been arrested and legal proceedings have been opened against him which will be monitored. We wish a speedy recovery for the injured,» they have indicated.
The province of Sanliurfa, close to the Syrian border, is on one of the main routes for migrants trying to cross Turkey to reach Europe.
