The President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, has announced that, with the support of the country’s governors, she will begin a round of consultations with the social leaders behind the mobilizations that are shaking the country following the impeachment and arrest of former President Pedro Castillo.
«As head of the Executive, I will be going to the interior of the country to attend to their demands. All these efforts, with a clear objective: social peace in the country», informed this Friday President Boluarte.
She also informed that she will meet with the religious leaders of the country – Catholic, Christian and Evangelical churches – to establish a «dialogue table» in each of the regions where protests are taking place.
In a call for calm, Boluarte has advocated to continue working in favor of social peace in the Andean nation, while criticizing «the violent acts» perpetrated by some «radicals» against the country’s security forces.
Thus, he expressed his regret for the death of civilians -about twenty- in the framework of these confrontations, as a consequence of which the authorities have decreed a state of emergency in the whole country for 30 days.
Supporters of the former president have been taking to the streets since last week in protest against his dismissal and arrest for having tried to dissolve the Parliament and declare a state of emergency government. They are also demanding that Boluarte call new general elections.
