Air alerts began sounding throughout Ukraine early this morning following a wave of Russian shelling reported yesterday by the authorities, who have noted at least 98 missile launches over the past 24 hours.
Pending information on possible new Russian air strikes, Ukrainian authorities have reported that they are already restoring electricity in the Kiev region after Friday’s shelling, which destroyed «critical infrastructure and nine homes,» according to the Ukrainian administration. At least four people were injured.
Especially intense has been the shelling in Sumy, where Russia has launched 79 strikes in 24 hours, hitting the communities of Bilopolska, Esmanska, Seredino-Budska and Jotinska, although with no casualties to report.
In the Zaporiya region, over the past day, Russia has shelled the settlements of Znachkovo, Gulyaipole, Omelnyk, Chervone, Preobrazhenka, Charivne, Mali Shcherbaki, Stepove, Dorozhnianka, Novodanilivka, Biloghirya, Mala Tokmachka, Olhivske, Shcherbaki, Zaliznychne and Kamianske.
Similarly, Ukraine has reported Russian shelling in Kherson in the east of the country, specifically along the right bank of the Dnipro River. It shelled areas of populated areas, in particular the city of Kherson, Chornobayivka, Antonivka, Antonivka, Mykilske, Tokarivka and Milove, according to the compilation of balance sheets offered by the civil-military administrations of Ukrainian regions, compiled by Ukrinform.
A CHILD DIED IN KRIVOI ROG At least four people died and thirteen others were wounded as a result of a new attack launched by the Russian Armed Forces on the village of Krivoli Rog in the center of the country, the last of whom was a one and a half year old child whose lifeless body was found early this morning in the rubble of a building.
According to the governor of Dnipropetrovsk, Valentin Reznichenko, in his latest assessment published on Saturday, among the dead is a 64-year-old woman and a young couple, identified as the parents of the deceased child.
Also, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk, the region where Krivói Rog is located, said that all the injured, including four minors, have been admitted to a hospital in the city. Seven of them are in serious condition, Ukrinform reported.
The European Union has reacted to this new Russian offensive, one more sign of the «indiscriminate terror» that Russia is trying to establish in its neighboring country. Brussels has stressed that these attacks constitute «war crimes and are barbaric».
«These cruel and inhumane attacks are aimed at increasing human suffering and depriving the Ukrainian people, but also hospitals, emergency services and other critical services, of electricity, heating and water,» the European External Action Service said in a statement.
Finally, the diplomacy of the European Union has valued both the efforts of the bloc to help Ukraine, and the «strength, courage and resilience» of the Ukrainian population.
