Official sources quoted by the newspaper ‘Clarín’ estimate that more than one million people gathered in the Obelisco area and its surroundings, although no significant altercations were reported.
The human tide was such that the Government supposedly considered declaring this Monday a holiday, although sources consulted by ‘La Nación’ consider this possibility, which was unprecedented, «discarded». The authorities have not yet agreed on how and when the official reception will be held.
The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, has thanked on Twitter the congratulatory messages issued by other foreign leaders, including his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron. «We are happy and excited with this wonderful triumph. Long live soccer and friendship between peoples,» he said.
