The authorities of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) acknowledged Thursday that it could take sappers five to seven years to achieve full demining of the territory of the region in eastern Ukraine.
This was confirmed by Vitaly Kiselev, advisor to the LPR Interior Ministry, who said that the most heavily mined areas are the cities of Lisichansk, Severodonetsk and Kremenaya.
Precisely these localities were the scene of some of the heaviest clashes between the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which were trying to recover the land, and the Russian Army, which finally annexed the region at the end of September.
«(The sappers) Are digging out anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, for another five to seven years we will have to excavate all this ammunition from our homeland,» Kiselev has reported, as reported by TASS news agency.
