The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday criticized Ukraine’s permanent representative to the United Nations Sergei Kislytsya for posting an image of the U.S. flag in Ukrainian national colors on his social networks.
Kislytsya has shared such a publication on his official Telegram profile along with the text, «They will stay together as long as it takes.» Later he has re-shared another image of the US flag again with yellow and blue colors but with the Ukrainian national symbol instead of the characteristic 50 stars.
This message on Twitter has soon received a response from Russia, with Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova interpreting this as a version of the Ukrainian «new flag».
On her Telegram channel, Zakharova warned that this message from Kislytsya certifies Ukraine’s pro-US course, something that Moscow has been warning about «for many years» without anyone believing them.
«Congratulations,» Zakharova concluded with irony.
Kislytsya’s message comes the day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to the United States to meet with his counterpart, Joe Biden, and also attended a joint session of Capitol Hill.
Within the framework of this visit, the United States confirmed new economic aid in the millions for Ukraine, including the supply of Patriot anti-aircraft systems. Zelenski presented Biden with a Medal of Military Merit and Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi with a Ukrainian flag.
