The Russian Foreign Ministry assures that there will be no peace negotiations to end the invasion in Ukraine as long as there are NATO and U.S. personnel in the country.
Russian diplomat Alexander Darchiev, director of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for North America, has indicated two conditions for «serious negotiations» to be launched to establish peace in the framework of the war in Ukraine, as he considers that, without them, «it is not possible» to move forward in the dialogue.
Thus, he pointed out that NATO and the United States must put an end to both financial and military aid packages, as well as the presence of members in the country, or the recognition of «the real situation on the territory of the country», as he stated in an interview with the Russian agency TASS.
«It will be premature to launch serious negotiations on security guarantees in the context of Ukraine and the Euro-Atlantic region as long as arms and funds are injected into the (Ukrainian) regime, while the US and NATO militaries remain in the country, and unless certain practical developments on the ground are recognized,» Darchiev said.
After this enumeration, the Russian diplomat assured that «the ball is now in the court of the United States». Meanwhile, he stressed that the Kremlin has made «an honest attempt to reach an agreement», so Moscow, «under these circumstances», does not trust «the United States or the West».
«As it turned out some time ago, the sweet Western assurances of having no aggressive intentions at all and being committed to the Minsk agreements disguised the effort to rearm the Ukrainian Army and concentrate forces to retake the Donbas and destroy it,» he has clarified.
