At least nine people have lost their lives and two have been injured as a result of flooding in nine provinces in southern Thailand due to heavy rains.
This has been reported in a statement by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (PACC) of the Thai Ministry of Interior, which has also detailed that 265,000 households have been affected by the floods.
The south of the country has recorded heavy rains between December 18 and 23, causing flash floods and landslides, all accompanied by strong gusts of wind.
Of the nine provinces affected since December 18, six continue to suffer from flooding, affecting a total of 155,552 households.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has organized with local administrations to expedite flood drainage and to provide relief to victims on an ongoing basis.
