The President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, has put the spotlight on the last head of government of former President Pedro Castillo, Betssy Chávez, and has assured that it is she who «owes an answer to the country» for her role in the political crisis of the last weeks.

«I believe that she cannot go unnoticed for all this political crisis that has been generated in the country», said Boluarte in allusion to Chávez, Prime Minister at the time when Castillo announced the dissolution of the Parliament and decreed a Government of exception on December 7.

According to the Andean President, Chávez «was walking next to the former President» Castillo and was by his side during the last months and she has hinted that a group of politicians, whom she has not mentioned, pushed the former President to take those decisions, which led to his dismissal and detention.

Boluarte has given an interview to the Peruvian radio station RPP in which she has defended that she is not responsible for the political crisis the country is going through, but that it is the result of «the anger, rage and impotence» of those politicians she alludes to.

«They were the ones who led former President Pedro Castillo to make these decisions (…) Dina Boluarte is not behind any censure motion. They want to take the water to their mill by branding me as a traitor and usurper», he remarked.

In fact, the president, who served as Castillo’s ‘number two’ until his dismissal, has defended her loyalty to the president even when «some congressmen» invited her to «get ready» because «the hat was not enough», in allusion to Castillo and his emblematic complement.

On this point, she stressed that her proclamation as head of state was in accordance with the presidential succession process established in the Peruvian Constitution. «The only thing I am doing is to constitutionally fulfill my duty», she said.
