A Los Angeles court on Friday found rapper and singer Tory Lanez guilty on three counts of the July 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood.
This was reported by Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón to CNN, which has detailed that the Canadian rapper, 30, has been found guilty of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, shooting with gross negligence, and carrying a loaded and unregistered handgun in a vehicle.
Following the verdict, Gascón thanked Megan for her testimony and condemned the harassment and ridicule she experienced after coming forward after being shot.
«You showed incredible courage and vulnerability with your testimony despite repeated and grotesque attacks that you did not deserve,» Gascón asserted, ‘The Washington Post’ reported.
«Women, especially black women, are afraid to report crimes such as sexual assault and violence because too often they are not believed,» she added.
Megan accused Lanez of shooting her in the foot after she got out of the vehicle they were riding in following an argument.
In her testimony during the trial, Megan detailed that things were tense in the car between her, Lanez and his female acquaintance and assistant, Kelsey Harris.
The artist stated that Lanez wanted her to come clean with Harris about the fact that the two had been intimate. But, according to Billboard magazine, Megan felt uncomfortable doing so because she knew Harris was in love with the Canadian singer and rapper.
