The Turkish government said Saturday that «it seems» that the war between Russia and Ukraine «will not end easily» and said that «it is likely» that «it is going to continue in 2023».
«The support of the United States, Europe and the West (to Ukraine) continues. So, there are preparations, plans and money being included in the budgets. On the other hand, there are Russia’s claims,» Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar noted.
«When we add it all up, it is not wrong to say that this war is likely to continue in 2023, despite our good intentions and our desire for a ceasefire and peace,» he stressed, as reported by the Turkish daily ‘Sabah’.
Turkey has carried out mediation work and even mediated with the United Nations for the signing in July of an agreement between Ukraine and Russia on the export of grain from Ukrainian ports. It has also hosted a meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries, although it did not come to fruition.
