China’s People’s Liberation Army on Sunday conducted military exercises around Taiwan days after U.S. President Joe Biden signed into law a bill to increase security assistance to the island.
«The Eastern Operations Command organized joint combat readiness and attack patrols and drills in the airspace and waters around Taiwan,» said its spokesman, Shi Yi, as reported by the ‘South China Morning Post’ newspaper.
According to the Chinese side, these military exercises have been carried out in the framework of the «growing» tension derived from the actions of the United States, as well as Taiwan. «The troops will take all necessary measures to firmly defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity,» it added.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday urged the United States to work «to establish the pillars and a solid foundation for a healthy and stable growth» of relations between the two countries.
