Allies of the still president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, have recommended him to «submerge himself politically» to avoid the «package of evils» that they believe they will receive from the new government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Bolsonaristas fear the «cruel and relentless persecution» from several fronts that they assume they will be subjected to as of January 1, 2023, when Lula da Silva is inaugurated, such as the lifting of the presidential secrecy that could lead to investigations and thwart a possible candidacy for 2026.
Among the information that may be made public after revoking the presidential secrecy imposed by Bolsonaro are from data on who has been visiting First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro at the Alvorada Palace, to the internal process of the Army against former Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello, including documentation on the purchase of the Indian vaccine against the coronavirus.
The fears are not only related to the possible consequences of the lifting of the presidential secrecy, but also for how the two investigations that Bolsonaro has in the Supreme Court, those of fake news and digital militias, and the next attorney general, will develop.
These two cases investigate the abuse of political and economic power, as well as the misuse of the media during the electoral period, as for example when Bolsonaro’s government announced an increase in social aid in the middle of the campaign, or the attacks on institutions and the electoral system with which an «ecosystem of disinformation» was created in social networks.
In case these investigations lead to Bolsonaro’s conviction, the still president of Brazil would be considered ineligible for future electoral processes for the next eight years, details the newspaper ‘O Globo’.
Regarding the Prosecutor’s Office, Bolsonarism also fears who may be elected as the new attorney general as of September 2023, when the tenure of Augusto Aras, one of its traditional allies, who has not hesitated to ask for the archiving, for example, of the requests to investigate Bolsonaro for his management of the pandemic, as requested by a special parliamentary commission.
