Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat has warned that the Russian military could launch strikes over the next few days in response to the weekend’s events at Engels airbase, where Ukrainian drone wreckage shot down by Russia claimed the lives of three servicemen.
Despite this threat, Ignat has made a positive assessment of that operation on the Russian air base, as he considers that it achieved the objective of altering to some extent Moscow’s plans, which has had to make «readjustments», reports the Ukrainian news agency Interfax.
According to Ignat, there are still many aircraft at the Engels base, although it is true that «many of them have already been relocated to different airfields» and, in general, Russia has reduced its nighttime air activity, even with tactical aircraft.
«Maybe yes, maybe they will make some adjustments», Ignat celebrated, who stressed that both the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, and the high military commanders and part of the population are aware that «the threat has not gone anywhere».
«The occupiers have not abandoned their insidious intentions. Perhaps during the New Year vacations or at other times they will take the opportunity to continue to strike at our infrastructure to break the Ukrainian people,» he said.
During the early hours of Monday morning, the Engels military airbase in southwestern Russia was hit by a series of explosions – the result of Ukrainian drone debris hit by Russian anti-aircraft systems – which claimed the lives of three Russian servicemen.
