Advisor to the Ukrainian Presidency Mikhail Podoliak on Tuesday insisted on the need to expel Russia from all UN bodies, as he believes that «fatal mistakes must be corrected».
Podoliak has launched this statement on his official profile on the social network Twitter, where he has assured that Russia «illegally» took a seat in the UN Security Council and «usurped» the right to veto.
«Whether by corruption or legal negligence, the Russian Federation usurped the ‘right of veto’ and systematically destroyed international legal and security systems,» denounced Podoliak, who has called for abiding by the law and respecting the UN Charter.
With this publication of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief advisor, Ukraine once again insists on its request for Russia’s expulsion both from the UN Security Council and from the UN as a whole.
As denounced on Monday by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Russia would have benefited from the position of the Soviet Union when, with its dissolution in 1991, it took a seat as a permanent member of the UN Security Council without going through the procedures defined by the Charter of the organization.
