Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó has called on Tuesday on the citizens of Venezuela to express themselves against the reform proposed by the majority of opposition parties and which aims to dissolve the «interim government» he leads.
«My call to all political forces in Parliament is to do what is best for Venezuela. It is important to correct, reorient strategies and strengthen the tools we have to confront the dictatorship,» Guaidó has asserted in a message disseminated on the social network Twitter.
According to Guaidó, «different experts, jurists, universities and even international organizations» would have expressed the consequences of dissolving the «interim government» as voted last week by 72 deputies of the Venezuelan National Assembly -considered the counterweight of the government led by Nicolás Maduro-.
«This is not about a person, but about not handing over to the dictatorship a tool of struggle», the opposition leader reiterated in his statement.
Guaidó’s message comes after the Venezuelan National Assembly voted last December 22 to dismiss him as head of the «interim government» in a first consultation.
Next December 29, the opposition chamber will carry out the second discussion of the reform of the Law of the Statute for the Transition, with which Guaidó could be dismissed from the «interim government» after having been at the head of it for almost four years.
72 deputies of the National Assembly of Venzuela voted in favor of removing the interim government, while 24 voted against and nine abstained.
Opposition parties that have supported ending the «interim» defend that in these years the expected objectives have not been met and that the «political process» that began with the recognition of Guaidó as president «is not perceived as an option for real political change».
The parties Encuentro Ciudadano, Proyecto Venezuela and Nuvipa demanded last week in a joint statement «true unity».
«We are aware of the vital need for the country to have united democratic forces (…) without individual partisan agendas,» said the statement, which reiterated that Venezuela «needs at this moment a true unity, where there cannot be any personal or particular interest, no matter how legitimate it may be.»
«This cannot be a matter of political individualities or particular interests, it is an essential matter for our nation», insisted these three opposition forces.
This process within the opposition is taking place at a time when the Venezuelan Government is leading meetings in Mexico with a multitude of opposition parties in order to advance in the dialogue for the construction of future electoral scenarios.
Guaidó, who came to be recognized by more than fifty countries as «interim president» in 2019 after his self-proclamation after not recognizing the results of the 2018 presidential election, has seen how his political weight abroad has been waning every year, as well as his leadership within the opposition.
