The Spanish Government has warned that the change of strategy of the Chinese authorities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, to a phase of «coexistence» with the virus, has resulted in a «very considerable» increase in infections and a lack of palliative medicines, and has therefore urged people to take these circumstances into account when visiting the Asian giant.
Since January 8, China will no longer apply quarantines, although tourist visas are still not issued and a negative PCR test carried out at least 48 hours in advance is still required. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reminded in its latest travel alert that «if visiting the country, it is recommended to be up to date with vaccinations».
In this sense, it has recalled that «many restrictions» have been reduced or directly eliminated, especially in terms of mobility, and «mass PCR campaigns in urban areas» have been suspended, after the Chinese government applied for almost three years both approaches to adhere to the ‘zero cases’ strategy.
«The authorities are appealing to the population to voluntarily confine themselves at home, obtain medication to alleviate the adverse effects of COVID-19 and proceed to recovery within 5-7 days,» Foreign Affairs recalls in its recommendations, updated this week.
