The Chinese government has called for limiting prevention measures to purely «scientific» measures to avoid further spread of the coronavirus after several countries in Asia and Europe reintroduced requirements, such as negative tests, for people coming from Chinese territory.
Wang Wenbin, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Asian giant, has thus alluded to the responsibility and the establishment of «appropriate measures» that «do not affect the normal development of personal exchanges or cooperation» between countries.
He recalled that over the last week, experts from various countries have ruled out the need to impose restrictions on the entry of people from China, which is going through a strong wave of contagions.
«We would like to recall that throughout this pandemic, China has been sharing highly relevant data with the international community, including the World Health Organization (WHO), in a transparent manner. We have made a great contribution,» he stressed.
In this regard, he said the relevant departments «will continue to monitor and control the progress of the virus, while releasing more information on the epidemic in accordance with the law.» «We will continue to work with the international community to address the challenges this poses,» he said during a press conference.
The explosion of COVID-19 cases in China, stemming from the lifting of most of the restrictions imposed throughout the pandemic, has generated concern worldwide and has led to the imposition in several countries, including Spain, of new controls for travelers coming from the country.
However, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) said on Thursday that, for the time being, the recovery of this type of measures was «unjustified», since Europe has a high level of immunization and no new variants have been detected that would give additional cause for concern.
