Floods and landslides in the Philippines have left 49 people dead during the Christmas vacations, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Relief Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.
Sunday’s report noted that 20 people are still missing, while some 500,000 citizens in more than 30 provinces were affected by the bad weather.
At least 51,400 were displaced by floods and landslides and forced to stay in evacuation centers or with relatives and friends.
Of those 49 deaths, 19 occurred in Misamis Occidental province (south), where heavy rains caused widespread flash flooding and landslides.
Other southern provinces reported 17 deaths, while 13 deaths occurred in the eastern and western provinces.
Damage to agriculture and infrastructure is estimated at about $25 million, according to the NDRRMC.
