
At least 14 people have died, including ten guards, and 24 prisoners have escaped this Sunday after a bloody riot in declared in the State Center for Social Reinsertion (Cereso) number three of the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua state, according to the state Attorney General’s Office in a statement.
The Prosecutor’s Office announced that the situation is now under control, according to the newspaper ‘Proceso’, and that investigations have already begun to determine exactly what happened.
The incidents, according to local information gathered by Infobae, began at around 06.00 with the appearance of an «armed commando aboard between three and six vans, some of them armored» at the gates of the prison.
Its occupants began to open fire on the security guards and unleashed chaos inside the prison, which some prisoners ended up taking advantage of to escape.
Elements of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), the National Guard, the State Public Security Secretariat and the State Investigation Agency are already on site to control the situation and collaborate to «restore tranquility in the Cereso».
Likewise, a team from the Forensic Medical Service and Expert Services has also arrived at the center to carry out the corresponding procedures, according to the statement from the Prosecutor’s Office.
