The planned EU-Ukraine summit that was initially to be held in Brussels will finally be held in Kiev, the Ukrainian capital, on February 3, the Ukrainian presidency said Monday.
The change of venue follows a telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
However, the meeting will not be attended by the heads of state and government, but only by Von der Leyen herself and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. This was already confirmed in December by a spokesman for Michel.
The announcement puts an end to speculation about a possible new trip by Zelenski out of the country after the surprise trip he made to Washington in December.
Zelenski’s office explained that in the telephone conversation with Von der Leyen they also discussed the situation on the battle fronts with Russia, as well as the process of Ukraine’s accession to the EU or the European economic support to Kiev.
