The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has announced a new tightening of measures for travelers arriving in the country from China, so that they will have to undergo a coronavirus test before and after air travel.
The measure, which will come into force on Sunday, is in addition to a government request to airlines not to increase direct connections between China and Japan, in an attempt to prevent a new upsurge of the COVID-10 pandemic linked to the explosion of cases on Chinese territory.
«We have decided to strengthen temporary measures taking into account the test results of those who have arrived during the year-end vacations,» Kishida explained, according to the Kiodo news agency. On Sunday, China will stop requiring quarantine for travelers arriving from abroad.
On Tuesday, the Chinese government threatened to retaliate against countries that impose new restrictions, as it considers that these are political and not medical measures, since the variants of coronavirus detected in the Asian giant are already circulating in other parts of the world.
