Russian Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin on Thursday threatened to confiscate German property if Berlin freezes Russian assets and accounts in the country for transfer to Ukraine as part of Russia’s invasion of the territory.
«As soon as this measure is carried out, we will do just the same in response to similar actions by Germany and other states,» he said, before warning that this decision is a violation of existing legislation.
In this regard, he recalled that some German companies have carried out large investments in Russia in the past and blamed Germany and France for «having started the war».
Thus, he pointed out that German and French leaders such as former Chancellor Angela Merkel and former President François Hollande signed the Minsk Agreements in 2015 to «deceive Russia and the international community», according to information from the TASS news agency.
That pact included a ceasefire and the withdrawal of heavy weapons, as well as reforms to Ukraine’s Constitution. However, Moscow has accused the European countries of «having no intention whatsoever of implementing the pact».
