MADRID, 3 (EUROPA PRESS The Chinese authorities have promised to improve emergency medical protocols following the death of a sick three-year-old boy who took hours to be treated for the rectitude of the methods applied to prevent possible contagion of coronavirus.

The events occurred on Monday, when the child’s father found him unconscious. According to the government of the central city of Lanzhou, officials asked the father to put on a mask when he called for help and emergency services disinfected an ambulance before moving to the scene of the alert.

The father ended up making his own way to the hospital, by cab, and his son died a few hours later, according to the official account. The issue has been one of the most commented on Thursday on the social network Weibo, where videos of security forces suppressing protests originated from this case have also been disseminated, according to the Bloomberg agency.

The local government has admitted in a message on WeChat that officials acted in a «rigid and bureaucratic» manner instead of resolving the crisis when sooner. «We will always put people and life first in our work from now on,» it has promised.

Much of the city, home to 4.4 million people, has been confined for several weeks, the result of a ‘zero-case’ policy against COVID-19 that Beijing shows no signs of reversing. Health authorities have reported on Thursday 51 additional infections.
