The White House condemned Thursday a new shooting, which it called «tragic,» in the U.S. town of Enoch, Utah, that has claimed the lives of at least eight people, including five minors.
«Too many Americans have lost loved ones or had their lives changed forever because of gun violence,» he said in a statement, adding that it remains «the leading cause of death for children in America.»
He recalled the Sandy Hook tragedy, when a 20-year-old Adam Lanza entered the school in Newtown, Connecticut, armed with a semi-automatic assault rifle and shot 20 children and six teachers to death.
The White House recalled in a statement that U.S. President Joe Biden recently signed a gun safety law that allows «implementing new tools to reduce gun violence.»
The local authorities stated that they do not consider that there is a threat to the population or suspects on the run in Utah, before adding that for the moment there are no detainees and that the victims have not been identified. They stressed that they will provide more information as the investigation progresses.
The governor of the state of Utah, Spencer Cox, has conveyed his condolences «to all those affected by this senseless violence». «Please keep the Enoch community in your prayers,» he said in a brief message on his Twitter account.
