An Austrian serviceman was killed Friday after being shot by a senior officer during a firefight at the air base located in the town of Wiener Neustadt, south of the capital Vienna, the army has confirmed.
Austrian Defense Ministry spokesman Michel Bauer said on his Twitter account that a guard at the base opened fire with an assault rifle, wounding his superior, who returned fire and killed the soldier.
Bauer has detailed that the incident took place shortly before 7.00 a.m., without the causes of the shooting having transcended for the moment. The dead soldier was performing his military service at the air base.
