The European Union’s top official, Josep Borrell, believes that the unilateral ceasefire declared by Russia in Ukraine is nothing more than an attempt by the Kremlin to «buy time to regroup its troops and try to restore its badly damaged international reputation.»
The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, visiting Morocco, also spoke of the impact of the war on the world economy, especially in the Mediterranean.
«We must bear in mind that the negative repercussions of this war go beyond the borders of Europe and are global,» he said.
In this regard, Borrell took the opportunity to condemn Russian «propaganda»; a campaign that «wanted to make us believe that European sanctions were responsible for the increase in energy and food prices.»
«It was the Russian army that destroyed the grain silos, destroyed and planted mines in the fields, destroyed the roads and blocked the ports of Ukraine,» said Borrell.
