The Ukrainian government reported on Saturday the total balance of international contributions in aid and loans so far this year, totaling more than $32 billion (about 30 billion euros).
Approximately 40 percent of these funds come from the United States, just under 25 percent come from the European Union and 8 percent are from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to data from the Ukrainian central bank, the National Bank of Ukraine.
These grants and loans account for approximately 16 percent of Ukraine’s GDP prior to the Russian invasion on February 24. This year Ukrainian GDP has plunged by more than 30 percent, according to Ukrainian Economy Ministry estimates.
Russia occupies approximately 18 percent of Ukrainian territory: the Crimean peninsula–annexed by Moscow in 2014–and much of Ukraine’s Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
