A Mexican court has provisionally suspended the extradition to the United States of Ovidio Guzmán López, alias ‘El Ratón’ and son of the notorious drug trafficker ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, who was arrested last week in an operation that left nearly 30 people dead.
Judge Juan Mateo Brieba de Castro has indicated that the suspension occurs so that the extradition order is not executed. Thus, ‘El Ratón’ will have to remain in Mexico «at the disposal of the court», as reported by the newspaper ‘El Universal’.
The operation in which the son of ‘El Chapo’ was arrested resulted in the early hours of Thursday morning with almost 30 dead. Already on Friday, Judge Gregorio Salazar Hernández ordered the drug trafficker to be remanded in custody with a view to his possible extradition to the United States, where he is accused of trafficking drugs such as fentanyl, marijuana and cocaine, among others.
During the operation, Mexican security forces seized an arsenal of four Barrett 50-caliber sniper rifles and six machine guns, 26 weapons and 13 vehicles, magazines, cartridges and tactical equipment.
