Brazil’s Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, has extended this Wednesday the presence for ten more days of the National Force in the Esplanade of the Ministries, at a time when new mobilizations of the disgruntled followers of Jair Bolsonaro are not ruled out, as they have advanced.
Minister Dino’s order authorizes the National Force to «assist» in the protection and reinforcement of public order, as well as public and private patrimony. The measure is in addition to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s decree to intervene federally in the capital and assume security powers.
The Esplanade of the Ministries – where the headquarters of the three assaulted powers are located – dawned this Wednesday with numerous vehicles of this police force, which was joined by another 611 troops arriving from fifteen states.
The presence of the National Force in the protocols is called for after the distrust of the Lula government in the forces of order controlled by Brasilia, whose governor, Ibaneis Rocha, was removed from office, as well as his Security Secretary, Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice with Bolsonaro.
The security services of Brasília «negotiated» the transfer of the assailants, escorted by agents, from the camp set up in front of the Army headquarters to the Three Powers Square. The events that followed caused Rocha to be temporarily removed, while Torres, on vacation in the United States, is under a warrant for his arrest.
Along with Torres, Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes has also issued another for the former commander of the Brasilia Military Police Fabio Augusto Vieira. In total, some 1,500 people have been arrested for the events, of which some 600 have been released on humanitarian grounds.
