Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk warned Wednesday that Russia is planning to carry out another wave of forced deportations of Ukrainians to its territory, a maneuver she considers an «act of genocide».
«We have intelligence sources confirming that Russia is really trying to commit another act of genocide, I won’t even call it deportation, because the forced and violent expulsion of Ukrainian citizens is an act of genocide, for which, of course, they will be punished,» he said.
At this point, Vereshchuk called on the Russian authorities to «think carefully» before carrying out these new deportations because, he warned, «everyone will be held responsible», as Ukrinform agency reported.
«Everyone will be held responsible, from those who passed such decrees to the driver who forcibly takes Ukrainians to the territory of Russia,» said the Ukrainian deputy prime minister, who also pointed out that, according to her information, Ukrainians are mostly deported to Russian eastern regions.
Nevertheless, Vereshchuk took the opportunity to somehow encourage the population by pointing out that this hypothetical Russian maneuver would be in response to the advances of the Ukrainian troops, who are gradually regaining control of the occupied areas, especially in Kherson.
