Brazil’s former Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga has lamented that Sunday’s attacks on institutions by a group of «radical» Bolsonaristas «has thrown away» the economic achievements of Jair Bolsonaro’s government.
«There is no perception of what was done for the country. The economic results during the collapse in the country as a result of the pandemic are a miracle,» Queiroga has assessed during a conversation in a private WhatsApp group accessed by the newspaper ‘Folha de Sao Paulo’.
«Now everything that was done has been thrown to the ground by the action of a group of radicals. The ‘lulopetista’ government had made several mistakes in the first week, but the action of these vandals ended up helping the government,» he lamented.
In response, Queiroga received a terse «yes» from former Economy Minister Paulo Guedes, according to an image taken from the cell phone of Senator Ciro Nogueira, who during Bolsonaro’s government was in charge of Casa Civil between August 2021 and the end of his term.
Queiroga’s assessment is one of the few publicly known of the ministers who once occupied Bolsonaro’s cabinet, who has shrugged off the attacks, but at the same time has once again given fuel to the theories that his defeat at the polls was not legitimate, an argument used during these months by his acolytes to defend a military intervention of the institutions.
