The White House confirmed Thursday the discovery of a second batch of classified documents in the garage of a Delaware home owned by the current president of the United States, Joe Biden, criticized in recent days by the management of the material theoretically protected during his time as ‘number two’ in the administration of Barack Obama.
The White House on Wednesday avoided answering questions about the documents linked to Biden’s time as vice president. The president himself confessed on Wednesday that he was «surprised» by these findings and stressed the full cooperation of his team with both the Justice Department and the US National Archives.
A special lawyer for Biden, Richard Sauber, has confirmed in a statement that, after the first material was found at the headquarters of a ‘think tank’, classified material has also been found in the garage of his home in Wilmington, reports the ‘New York Times’.
After the first batch, the lawyers proceeded to a review in which they «discovered among personal and political papers a small number of additional records of the Obama-Biden Administration, with classified notes».
» All but one of these documents were located in a storage space in the garage of his Wilmington residence. A one-page document was discovered among materials stored in an adjacent room,» he has explained.
Sauber assured that the presidential office immediately notified the Justice Department of the discovery and transferred all the material to the government. He also ruled out that there were classified documents in another home owned by Biden in Rehoboth Beach, also in Delaware.
This controversy has led to criticism of Biden by the Republican Party, as well as former President Donald Trump, who has denounced an alleged double standard by the authorities. The FBI searched Trump’s mansion in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, last year.
