The Bolivian Public Prosecutor’s Office has extended the investigation against the governor of the department of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, arrested since the end of December, and has also charged him with the crimes of active bribery and seduction of troops.

Until now Camacho was being tried for terrorism in degree of authorship in the framework of the ‘coup d’état I’ case, which deals with the events that took place in November 2019, when President Evo Morales was forced to leave the country due to military pressure and amid suspicions about the transparency of the elections.

Bolivian authorities have transferred this new accusation to the Tenth Court of Criminal Precautionary Instruction of La Paz, which is responsible for the process opened against Camacho, in preventive detention for a period of four months in the maximum security prison of Chonchocoro, reports ‘El Deber’.

Camacho is the governor of the richest region of Bolivia and historically opposed to the governments of the ruling Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), scene in the last month of new protests and blockades, this time to oppose the population census law.

His arrest is motivated by his role in the violent demonstrations and protests that took place after the opposition, supported by the Armed Forces, pressured former president Morales to renounce his victory in the October 2019 elections.
