The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, confirmed this Friday that there are complaints before the Attorney General’s Office in the capital, Mexico City, for the «abnormal episodes» recently recorded in the subway network.

This was announced by the Mexican president during his usual daily press conference, although he did not elaborate on the details of such complaints, nor did he indicate the number of such complaints, as reported by the local newspaper ‘El Universal’.

«The investigation is being carried out. The other thing I cannot say because I cannot advance anything. I can’t explain anything because there are complaints about the accidents that have occurred. Then it is the Attorney General’s Office that has this case, these cases,» said Lopez Obrador.

The Mexican National Guard has deployed about fifty «simulated users» as part of the surveillance plan announced last Thursday and in response to incidents that the mayor of Mexico City herself, Claudia Sheinbaum, described as «out of the ordinary».

These «simulated users» are part of the nearly 5,800 agents deployed to «inhibit» actions against infrastructure, trains and users of the capital’s subway network, frequent in recent days.

The most serious of these episodes took place last week, with an accident that left one dead and more than 50 people injured, but in the last few days there have been all kinds of incidents on different lines, including a fire in a carriage.

The head of the capital city government did not want to speculate on the possibility of sabotage, but she did promise that all incidents will be investigated. She also announced that the authorities will decide on a possible budget increase in the subway depending on the decisions of a working group that has been active since 2022.
