The Peruvian deputy of Peru Libre, Kelly Portalatino, has filed this Friday a constitutional complaint against the cabinet of the Prime Minister, Alberto Otárola, for alleged crimes in the framework of the protests in the Peruvian department of Puno, which have resulted in the death of at least 20 people.

«So that, through a special parliamentary process, the eventual responsibilities that could have been incurred by said officials may be determined,» reads the text presented in the Subcommittee of Constitutional Accusations, obtained by the newspaper ‘La República’.

In the complaint, in addition to Otárola, all the ministers of his cabinet appear, accused of violating Article 1 of the Peruvian Constitution, which refers to the «defense of the human person and respect for his dignity».

This comes after Peru’s Minister of Labor, Eduardo García Birimisa, resigned the day before, following the latest clashes that have taken place between security forces and demonstrators, which have left at least 49 people dead.

Otárola announced on Tuesday a three-day curfew in the department of Puno. The mobilizations were triggered by the dismissal of former president Pedro Castillo, who was removed by Congress after attempting to arrogate to himself more powers with a view to forming a government of exception.
