A delegation from the Ansar Allah movement, the official name of Yemen’s Huthi insurgency, has left for Oman’s capital, Muscat, to negotiate a new humanitarian truce with Yemeni authorities following the end of the previous ceasefire in October last year.
«In continuation of the efforts made by the brothers in the Sultanate of Oman, a delegation has left for Muscat after conducting serious and positive discussions on humanitarian arrangements that achieve stability for the Yemeni people,» the movement’s spokesman Mohamed Abdelsalam said on his Twitter account.
He explained that these talks will be aimed at «paving the way for a comprehensive and just peace and an end to the aggression and siege, God willing».
The parties to the conflict in Yemen agreed on April 2 to implement a truce which, however, the Huthis and the international coalition led by Saudi Arabia accused each other of having breached until October last year, when the last extension of the cessation of hostilities expired, without subsequent renewal.
The war in Yemen pits the internationally recognized government, now represented by the Presidential Leadership Council and supported by the aforementioned international coalition, against the Huthis, backed by Iran. The Huthis control the capital, Sana’a, and areas in the north and west of the country.
