A member of the former Afghan parliament deposed by the Taliban has been killed along with her bodyguard in an attack under investigation at her home in the country’s capital, Kabul.
Kabul police confirmed the death of Mursal Nabizada, 29, a member of parliament from the city. Her brother was wounded in the attack, police spokesman Jalid Zadran told the Afghan television channel Ariana.
This is the first time that a former Afghan politician has been killed since the return to power of the Taliban in August 2021.
Many Afghan politicians, including several female lawmakers, sought refuge outside Afghanistan following the Taliban’s return to power. Nabizada, however, remained in the country.
Four months ago she appeared on a local television program with her face masked, where she said she was working with a non-governmental organization, a job the Taliban have vetoed for women, according to DPA.
