Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky announced Sunday the imposition of sanctions on another 198 Russian cultural and media personalities, bringing to 317 the number of names included in Kiev’s sanctions lists. In the latest package is film director Andrei Konchalovsky, responsible for films such as ‘Tango and Cash’, ‘Siberiada’ or ‘The Train from Hell’.
The document 23/2023 of the Presidency thus validates a decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to impose «special personal economic and other restrictive measures» for ten years on mostly Russian citizens, Ukrinform Ukrainian news agency reports.
Zelensky himself has explained in his daily evening address that this list has been «carefully prepared.» «Behind each surname a cause: those who justify terrorism, those who grease the machine of Russian propaganda, those who have tried to sell Ukraine to Moscow,» he stressed.
«The responsibility for terrorism is shared by both those who kill and those who help to kill,» he has argued, while warning that «one day the terrorists will come after you.»
Among the names on the list are Russian blogger Dmitry Puchkov, known as ‘Goblin’; politician Sergei Stankevich; Russian Zvezda TV producer Boris Yanovsky; TV presenter Yana Rudkovska or actor and presenter Boris Korchevnikov.
Also included are music critic and journalist Sergei Sosedov; sociologist Yevhen Kopatko; diplomat and political scientist Rodion Miroshnkik; propagandist and publicist Vladimir Kornilov, sports journalist Dimitri Guberniev and Ukrainian television presenter Diana Panchenko.
On January 7, Zelensky already sanctioned 119 other Russian personalities, including several celebrities and three persons with Ukrainian citizenship. Among them were Irina Allegrova – a Ukrainian citizen -, TV presenter Zhanna Badoeva, singer Dimitro Bilan, presenter Dana Borisova and singer Oleksander Buinov.
It also mentions former Ukrainian footballer Anatoli Timoshchuk – a Ukrainian who continued to work as assistant coach of Zenit St. Petersburg after the Russian invasion -, singer Larisa Dolina, actor Dimitro Diuzhev, singer Victoria Daineko, actor Dimitro Jaratian and singer Pilip Kirkorov.
In December Zelensky already imposed sanctions on thirteen clergymen of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, including Metropolitan Luka of Zaporiyia and Melitopol and Metropolitan Panteleimon of Lugansk and Alchevsk, including deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship.
