The Russian government has blamed Ukrainian forces for the shelling of a residential building in the city of Dnipro that has left more than thirty people dead, claiming that Russian troops only attack military targets.
«The Russian Armed Forces do not attack residential buildings or social infrastructure,» the Kremlin’s chief spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said Monday in statements to the media, despite indications pointing to Russia’s responsibility.
According to Peskov, Russian forces only attack «military targets», although they may sometimes be hidden in other types of infrastructure, Interfax news agency reports.
The regional governor, Valentin Reznichenko, on Monday raised the provisional death toll to 35. The authorities do not rule out an increase in the number of dead, because there are still people trapped under the rubble and several of the injured remain in serious condition.
