A group of environmental activists blocked the vicinity of the St. Gallen-Altenrhein airport in the northern Swiss canton of St. Gallen on Monday to protest the start of the Davos Forum.
Authorities have warned that the last passengers to land are in their cars with no way forward as the main road out of the airport is blocked, according to the newspaper ’20 Minuten’.
Police have moved into the area, where between 30 and 40 activists are taking part in protests that have not, however, affected the internal workings of the airport.
«For now there are no restrictions for passengers. Flights are continuing, flight arrivals and departures have not been affected either. We are monitoring the situation and will continue to clarify how to proceed,» the police said.
The summit of the World Economic Forum, also known as Davos Forum, has started this Monday and will take place until January 20 under the theme ‘Cooperation in a fragmented world’.
