Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has included the coup draft that Brazilian authorities found in the home of former Justice and National Security Minister Anderson Torres in an investigation into former President Jair Bolsonaro’s campaign for re-election.
Judge Benedito Gonçalves decided Monday to include the draft decree document in Bolsonaro’s file, who has been given three days to rule on the contents of the document.
The magistrate also decided to summon Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes to share among the various institutions the evidence collected in the investigation into the assault on democratic institutions.
For Gonçalves, there is an «unequivocal correlation» between the attacks on the electronic ballot boxes – since the Liberal Party requested the annulment of the votes cast through them, alleging a malfunction – and the documents seized in the raid on Torres’ house.
In this sense, the inclusion of the draft of the decree serves to «densify the arguments which evidence the occurrence of abuses of political power tending to discredit the electoral justice and the electoral process, with a view to altering the result of the election», reported the newspaper ‘O Globo’.
Currently, there are a total of 16 open investigations against Bolsonaro that could set aside his candidacy for the elections of the next eight years, according to the newspaper.
