The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, has expressed Tuesday in front of President Joe Biden at the White House his intention to join the United States and Germany in sending Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine.
«We intend to join what he is doing with Germany on the Patriots (…) I think it is important that we join that,» Rutte specified, adding that he has already discussed the issue with his German and Ukrainian counterparts, Olaf Scholz and Volodimir Zelenski, respectively, as reported by CNN.
Biden and Rutte reaffirmed «the historic ties and shared values» between the two nations during a meeting in Washington in which they discussed bilateral cooperation «on transatlantic and global issues of mutual interest».
«They reviewed their strong political, security, economic and humanitarian support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s brutal war of aggression, including efforts to hold Russia accountable for its abuses and for war crimes committed by Russian forces,» the White House said in a statement.
They also discussed other issues, such as the «shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific,» as well as «strengthening democracy, respect for human rights and international order, including as co-hosts of the upcoming second Democracy Summit.»
