Alaska State Troopers reported Tuesday that a polar bear has attacked and killed two people after entering the town of Wales, a village in the far western part of the state.
The officers, who recorded the incident at 14.30 local time, have indicated that the victims are a woman and a young man, according to a statement from the Department of Public Safety.
«Initial reports indicate that a polar bear reportedly entered the community and chased several residents. The bear has fatally attacked a woman and a young man, a resident has shot and killed (the animal) when it attacked both people,» the missive reads.
According to authorities, both law enforcement and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game are working to travel to the area when «weather conditions permit» to investigate the case.
